The Risks Are Real For Rodeo Competitors

For the fans in the stands, rodeos are an action-packed sport. But for a cowboy, it's more than a sport, it's a way of life. The risks facing a rodeo competitor are like no other. A serious injury can have a severe impact on the lives of these athletes. And they don't have million-dollar contracts or signing bonuses to help support their families as they try to heal in time for the next rodeo.

Benevolent Foundation Lends A Helping Hand

The Edmonton Rodeo Cowboy's Benevolent Foundation assists these athletes in times of financial hardship due to rodeo-related injuries. Northlands created the fund in 1989, and it was established as a foundation in 1995. Today, it's one of the most vital and invaluable programs in support of professional rodeo in Canada.

Two Ways To Make A Difference: Black Tie Bingo and 50/50 Draw

The two primary fundraising events for the foundation are Black Tie Bingo and the 50/50 Raffle Draw held during each CFR performance. To date, the foundation has paid out more than $1,021,000 to over 155 injured athletes and their families.
